In writing this poem I’m left wondering what David did with the other 4 stones that he took from the river that day. Did he keep them in a pocket? Did he find them in his hand whenever he felt the threat of man? Did he remember the victory and the place of security on the Mercy seat of God?
Midday heat. Shouts of defeat. Hand pocketed; I retreat; To find memory. We meet, Timidity finds truth, I stand complete. The rocks smooth. You plant my feet; In goliath song with heaven’s triumphant victory beat. Holding rocks and rock-held forever on your mercy seat.
